Sony confirms no release date or price set for PlayStation 6
Sony Group Corporation has confirmed that it has not yet established a release date or retail price for its next-generation console, the PlayStation 6. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Sony President and COO Hiroki Totoki stated that the company is monitoring market conditions and supply chain pressures before making official commitments.
Rising costs for high-bandwidth memory and advanced semiconductors are cited as primary factors complicating production schedules. While some industry speculation points to a 2027 launch, analysts suggest a delay into late 2028 may be more likely due to these component expenses.
Regarding potential hardware, reports suggest a PlayStation 6 handheld device could face high retail prices, potentially exceeding 600 USD, driven by the high cost of LPDDR5X memory. Additionally, Sony plans to cease the production of physical game discs for new software starting in January 2028.
