Sony has not yet established a release date or pricing for the PlayStation 6, citing significant challenges within the global semiconductor and memory markets. CEO Hiroki Totoki stated that the company is monitoring the situation closely, noting that high memory costs are a primary factor in the lack of a concrete timeline.

The industry is currently facing a shortage of high-performance RAM and GPU chips, driven by competition from the electric vehicle, data center, and smartphone sectors, as well as raw material scarcity. Reports indicate that RAM prices have seen dramatic increases, with some analyses suggesting costs have risen significantly compared to previous years.

While initial rumors suggested a 2027 or 2028 launch, the ongoing supply chain disruptions and high manufacturing costs may impact the console's eventual market price and availability. Analysts suggest that the supply crisis could persist well beyond the 2027-2028 fiscal period.
