Sony FX5 cinema camera launched with 5K Open Gate sensor

Sony has expanded its Cinema Line with the introduction of the FX5, a compact cinema camera featuring a new fully stacked 5K 3:2 Open Gate sensor. This sensor allows filmmakers greater flexibility in post-production, enabling easier reframing and the ability to extract both horizontal and vertical content from a single shot.

The FX5 introduces internal RAW recording using Sony’s X-OCN format, a significant upgrade over previous models in the FX series. It supports high-frame-rate recording, including 5K at 60 fps, 4K at 120 fps, and Full HD at 240 fps. The camera is equipped with a BIONZ XR2 image processing engine and a dedicated AI processing unit to enhance autofocus through human pose estimation technology.

In the Indonesian market, the FX5 is priced at Rp95 million. The device offers a dynamic range of over 15 stops in S-Log3 and features three base ISO options—800, 4000, and 12800—to manage noise across various lighting conditions.
