Sony FX5 demand outpaces expectations, causing possible delivery delays

Sony confirmed that orders for its new FX5 cinema‑line camera have far exceeded the company’s forecasts, prompting a statement that deliveries may be delayed as the firm works to meet customer demand. The FX5, which records 5K Open Gate video and features internal 16‑bit X‑OCN RAW, three base ISOs and a VENICE‑inspired interface, has quickly become a top seller on major retailers.

In an interview at Sony’s Yokohama headquarters, product planner Ryoji Yamada and cinema‑line head Takuro Ema discussed the camera’s development, noting that firmware version 2 is still pending and that anamorphic use remains limited. They emphasized Sony’s focus on achieving a specific “look” and operability, building on the FX3’s philosophy while aiming for a more complete family camera for professional productions.
