Sony launches full‑frame FX5 cinema camera with 5K video and internal RAW

Sony announced the FX5, its newest Cinema Line full‑frame camera equipped with a 16.6‑megapixel stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR2 processor that includes a dedicated AI unit. The camera delivers more than 15 stops of dynamic range in S‑Log3, three native ISOs (800, 4000, 12800) and Dual‑Gain Shooting for low‑noise performance.

For the first time in the FX series, the FX5 supports Open Gate 3:2 full‑pixel readout and internal 16‑bit RAW recording via Sony’s X‑OCN format. Video capabilities reach 5 K at 60 fps, 4 K at 120 fps and Full HD at 240 fps, with 5‑axis in‑body stabilization and AI‑driven autofocus that tracks eyes, face and body. Optional accessories include a removable 0.58‑inch OLED viewfinder (DVF‑EL1) and an XLR‑H2 audio handle for 96 kHz / 32‑bit‑float recording.

Pricing information released shows the body‑only version (ILME‑FX5B) at CHF 4,600 in Switzerland, while Brazil’s market will see the FX5 priced from roughly R$27 000. Pre‑orders begin on 22 July 2026 with shipments slated for August.
