Sony Pulls Hundreds of Films and Games from PlayStation Stores

Sony announced it will remove 551 film titles from the UK PlayStation Store on 1 September 2026 after licensing agreements with Studiocanal expire. The affected movies include "Terminator 2" and "Paddington". Sony said the removals are due to expired licenses and offered no refunds, sparking debate over the permanence of digital purchases.

In a separate cleanup, Sony is also deleting about 140 games from the PlayStation Store that are classified as shovelware from Brazilian publisher Afil Games. The titles, which appear on PS4 and PS5, are being removed under stricter publishing guidelines and have been welcomed by many users who view the low‑quality releases as clutter. Afil Games plans to continue publishing on other platforms such as Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC.
