Sony to Delete Over 500 Movies from UK PlayStation Store
Sony has sent emails to UK PlayStation Network customers stating that more than 550 movies licensed from French studio StudioCanal will be removed from users' libraries on September 1. The deletions include titles such as *Terminator 2: Judgment Day*, *Total Recall*, *Apocalypse Now: The Final Cut* and *Moonlight*. Sony cited “content licensing” as the sole reason and did not mention any refunds.
The move follows previous removals of StudioCanal titles for German and Austrian users in 2022 and earlier instances where Sony pulled other content, such as Discovery programming in 2023, before renegotiating licences. While the notice applies only to UK users, US customers are not affected. The announcement has prompted criticism from gamers who argue that digital purchases should be permanent, echoing broader debates about ownership of digital media.
