Sony to Pull Purchased StudioCanal Movies from PlayStation Libraries in Europe

Sony announced that, starting 1 September 2026, users in several European countries will lose access to hundreds of movies and series they bought on the PlayStation Store that were licensed from StudioCanal. The titles will be removed both from the store and from customers' personal video libraries. A list for the UK store includes 551 items such as Terminator 2, Rambo, Hot Fuzz, Attack the Block, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Apocalypse Now, Paddington, Evil Dead, Gomorrah and Young Pope.

Sony cited the expiration of licensing agreements as the reason and gave no details on refunds or other compensation. The move revives debate over digital‑content ownership, highlighting that purchases often grant only a time‑limited license rather than permanent rights. No impact on PlayStation games was mentioned.
