Sony to Remove 551 Purchased Movies from PlayStation Store in Europe

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that, on 1 September 2026, 551 movies and series licensed from StudioCanal will be removed from the PlayStation Store libraries of users in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and other European regions. The titles include well‑known films such as Terminator 2, Apocalypse Now, Total Recall, Paddington, Moonlight, and others. The removal is due to an expired licensing agreement; no refunds or compensation will be offered. Sony stated that the content was sold under a licence rather than ownership, allowing the company to withdraw the titles when the licence ends. US PlayStation accounts are not affected. The move follows a similar 2023 removal of Discovery‑licensed titles that was later reinstated after a new agreement. Consumer backlash has highlighted the fragile nature of digital‑only purchases, with many users urging a shift back to physical media.
