Sony launches FX5 Cinema Line camera with pre‑orders in US, UK and Germany

Sony announced the FX5, the latest addition to its Cinema Line. The full‑frame camera features a newly developed stacked CMOS sensor, a dual‑gain shooting mode, over 15 stops of dynamic range and can record 5K video at 60 fps, 4K at 120 fps or Full HD at 240 fps. It supports Open‑Gate capture, internal X‑OCN RAW recording, AI‑driven autofocus with real‑time tracking, and 5‑axis in‑body stabilization. Accessories include a detachable OLED viewfinder and an XLR handgrip for up to 96 kHz/32‑bit audio.

Pre‑orders began on 22 July 2026. In the United States, B&H Photo, Adorama and Amazon list the body‑only FX5 for $4,898, with a bundled XLR version at $5,498; shipments are slated for mid‑August. In the United Kingdom, retailers such as Wex Photo Video and London Camera Exchange offer the body for £4,699 and the bundle for £5,199, with Sony UK promising direct shipping from 28 August. German pricing follows Sony Europe’s recommendation of €5,399 for the body and €5,999 for the bundle.

Sony Europe’s Video and Cinema Marketing Lead Florence Quintin said the FX5 “removes creative hurdles and delivers the performance and flexibility filmmakers need.” A camera test by Academy‑Award‑winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda, ASC, compared the FX5 with the FX3 using the VENICE 2 as a benchmark, noting the FX5’s softer highlight roll‑off, more organic colour transition and stronger low‑light behaviour.
