Sony unveils FX5 release date while US price of FX3 rises

Sony’s Cinema Line will be expanded with the FX5, slated for a global announcement on 22 July at 15:00 GMT (22 July 22:00 Taipei time). The new model, larger than the FX3, features a 16‑megapixel stacked sensor, supports 5K 3:2 Open Gate recording, three native ISO settings and includes a sizable LCD screen with false‑color exposure tools. It also adds internal RAW recording via X‑OCN LT.

In the United States, Sony’s existing compact cinema camera, the FX3A, has seen its price rise to $4,299, about $400 above its previous level. The increase follows broader cost pressures on imaging equipment, including higher manufacturing expenses, logistics challenges and tariff impacts. The higher price alters the buying calculus for creators who rely on the FX3 platform.
