Sooke RCMP officers cleared of serious harm in March arrest investigation
The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO) has concluded its investigation into an incident involving Sooke RCMP officers, determining that no officers caused serious harm during an arrest in March.
The incident occurred near Otter Point Park when officers responded to a request from a property owner to remove a man from a residence. The individual refused to leave, resulting in an interaction that led to his injury and subsequent arrest.
Following a review of police reports, medical records, body-worn camera footage, and surveillance video, the IIO chief civilian director determined that the injuries sustained did not meet the threshold of ‘serious harm’ as defined by the Police Act.
