Sophie Adenot and Anil Menon complete ISS antenna repair
ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot and NASA astronaut Anil Menon successfully completed a six-and-a-half-hour spacewalk on the International Space Station (ISS) to replace a critical communication antenna.
The mission, conducted on August 25, 2026, aimed to install a new Space-to-Ground (SGANT) antenna. This task was a follow-up to a previous attempt on August 18, which was interrupted when the duo encountered stubborn bolts and electrical connectors that prevented the installation of the replacement unit.
During the operation, Menon utilized the Canadarm2 robotic arm to assist with the equipment, while Adenot worked at the Z1 truss segment. The new antenna is essential for maintaining high-speed data transmission and communications between the ISS and the mission control center in Houston, Texas. Following the installation, the astronauts moved the old, defective antenna to a storage platform. Initial checks indicated that the new antenna is functioning with good power and data transmission capabilities.
