Sophie Adenot completes second spacewalk to repair ISS antenna
French astronaut Sophie Adenot has successfully completed her second spacewalk at the International Space Station (ISS). On August 25, 2026, Adenot and NASA astronaut Anil Menon worked for approximately six and a half hours to install a Ku-band communications antenna. This task follows a previous attempt on August 18, where technical difficulties with bolts and connectors prevented the completion of the installation.
Adenot, an ESA astronaut, made history on August 18 as the first French woman to perform an extravehicular activity. During an interview from orbit, she described the successful repair of the antenna as a “miracle” given the mechanical setbacks encountered during the mission.
NASA has announced that Adenot will lead a third spacewalk scheduled for September 1. This upcoming mission will be an all-female operation, with Adenot serving as crew member 1 alongside American astronaut Jessica Meir. The objectives for the third outing include replacing a retroreflector used for spacecraft docking and rendezvous, installing cables, and replacing a high-definition camera.
