Soria Civil War Victims' Remains Returned to Families

Two men executed during the Spanish Civil War in the province of Soria were identified and handed back to their relatives after almost a century of disappearance. Forensic work by the association Recuerdo y Dignidad together with the research group Sociedad Aranzadi allowed the bodies of Manuel Hernández of Pozalmuro and Juan García, a former councilor from Iruecha, to be individually identified.

The ceremony took place at the cultural centre Tirso de Molina in Almazán and was supported by several public administrations. It also served as a reminder of the estimated six hundred people who were killed or went missing in Soria during the war, while ongoing investigations continue to search for further victims.

Families of the two exhumed victims were finally able to close a long‑standing mourning process that had been passed down through generations.
