Soria mayor confirms police raid on municipal offices

The Court of Soria sent an official notice to mayor Javier Antón on 22 June informing him that a judicial entry and search of municipal premises could be carried out, without specifying the date, time or exact purpose. The mayor replied that he was fully available and would cooperate with the authorities. On 23 June the Guardia Civil executed the raid, detaining former environment and tourism councilor Yolanda Santos and six other individuals suspected of involvement in corrupt municipal contracting.

Opposition councillors from the PP and Vox said the mayor had told them on Monday about the impending raid and have called for full documentation of how the notification was received and who authorized the operation. The higher court cited articles of the Spanish Criminal Procedure Law that allow searches of public buildings when there are relevant indications of a crime.
