Soria mushroom harvest faces critical weather window
The mushroom harvesting season in Soria, Spain, has entered a critical two-week period. Experts warn that optimal production of commercial and culinary species depends heavily on upcoming weather conditions.
Following a summer characterized by high temperatures and low precipitation—with some areas receiving less than 25% of normal rainfall—soil moisture levels in forest areas are significantly depleted. While recent mild temperatures and scattered rains are positive signs, experts state that substantial rainfall is still required to trigger a successful harvest. Specifically, between 60 and 80 liters per square meter are needed, though drier areas may require up to 120 liters to ensure a productive season.
