Soto la Marina forest fire burns over 200 hectares of oak forest

A forest fire in the Sierra de Soto la Marina has devastated more than 200 hectares of oak forest. The blaze, centered in the Ejido La Peña area, has been active for six days.

Authorities report approximately 70 percent control and extinction of the fire. However, dry conditions and wind gusts continue to complicate containment efforts and pose a risk of further spread. To combat the flames, Protección Civil Tamaulipas has deployed a helicopter for aerial water drops to support ground brigades.

Efforts are being coordinated across municipal, state, and federal agencies. According to the Comisión Nacional Forestal, Tamaulipas is one of only two Mexican states currently recording active forest fires, alongside Quintana Roo.
