Sound of Music museum opens in Salzburg
The Sound of Music Salzburg museum has opened in the historic Hellbrunn Palace in Salzburg, Austria. The venue is the first dedicated space for the 1965 Hollywood classic starring Julie Andrews.
The museum features 477 objects across 668 square meters, including film props, posters, and footage. It utilizes immersive technology, such as an experiential room with projections and sound to recreate iconic film scenes.
A central focus of the exhibition is the distinction between the Hollywood portrayal and the actual history of the von Trapp family. The museum explores the real lives of Georg and Maria von Trapp, their music, and their emigration to the United States following the 1938 annexation of Austria. Elisabeth von Trapp, granddaughter of Georg and Agathe von Trapp, attended the opening and provides guided tours of film locations in the city.
