South Africa braces for bitter cold, heavy rain and strong winds this weekend

The South African Weather Service has issued yellow warnings for the Western Cape as a strong cold front moves in. Residents of Cape Town and the Cape Winelands face a high chance of widespread rain and localized flooding, while strong north‑westerly winds are expected to make sea conditions hazardous along the south‑west coast. Dense fog and reduced visibility are forecast for Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the Free State, increasing the risk of road accidents.

Temperatures will drop across most provinces, with cold, windy conditions in the Northern and Western Cape and cooler but dry weather in the interior. The weekend outlook calls for a quiet start on Saturday followed by the worst of the system on Sunday, particularly in the Western Cape.

In southern Australia, Adelaide is set for a cool, cloudy start to the week with patchy morning fog and light winds, before showers become likely from Monday onward. By mid‑week, showers and stronger north‑westerly winds are expected, bringing cooler temperatures and occasional heavy rain.
