South Africa braces for heavy snow and severe cold in Eastern Cape

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level‑2 warning for disruptive snow across the Eastern Cape, with forecasts of up to 60 cm of snow on high elevations and more than 25 cm in many mountain areas. The warning covers several local municipalities, including Koukamma, Kouga, Blue Crane, Raymond Mhlaba, Amahlathi, Intsika Yethu, Dr AB Xuma, Mhlontlo and Mzimvubu, and warns of possible road travel disruptions, isolated loss of livestock and crops, and localized flooding.

A cold front and cut‑off low are also expected to bring very cold, wet and windy conditions, rough seas and isolated flooding across South Africa’s nine provinces from Sunday into Monday. The public and small‑stock farmers have been urged to take precautions to protect lives, property and livestock.
