South Africa braces for severe thunderstorms and hail

The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level‑1 warning for severe thunderstorms across most provinces. The alert cites large hail, damaging winds and localized flooding that could affect low‑lying areas, roads, bridges and settlements, particularly in Mpumalanga.

Forecasts for the day include morning frost in parts of Gauteng, fog patches in Mpumalanga and Limpopo, and generally cool to cold conditions with isolated showers and thundershowers nationwide. UV‑B sunburn indices range from moderate to high, and fire‑danger warnings are not in effect.
