South Africa police seize R28 million cocaine shipment at OR Tambo Airport

The South African Police Service (SAPS), together with Customs officials and Menzies Aviation staff, intercepted a consignment of 95 kg of cocaine valued at roughly R28 million at OR Tambo International Airport on Friday at about 1 p.m. The cargo arrived on a flight from São Paulo, Brazil. SAPS said the operation was driven by intelligence from its Crime Intelligence Border Integrity Unit and executed by the Visible Policing Unit. No arrests have been made; investigators are reviewing flight manifests and cargo documents to identify the smuggling network.

Police emphasized their commitment to disrupting organised drug trafficking and noted that securing the airport remains a national security priority. Further cooperation with international law‑enforcement agencies may be pursued to trace the shipment’s originators in Brazil.
