South Africa weather: Severe storms and fire risks reported

South Africa is experiencing highly variable spring weather, characterized by severe storm warnings in some regions and warm, sunny conditions in others.

In KwaZulu-Natal, the South African Weather Service has issued warnings for severe thunderstorms, heavy downpours, hail, and excessive lightning. eThekwini is bracing for further storms as recovery efforts continue following recent heavy rains that affected 27 wards, damaged infrastructure, and displaced residents. An Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive rain has also been issued for the province's south coast.

In the Northern Cape, the Nama-Khoi Municipality is under extremely high fire danger conditions.

Conversely, the Western Cape is seeing much calmer weather, with Cape Town experiencing clear skies and warm temperatures reaching up to 31°C. The Garden Route is also expecting a transition from mild conditions to significantly warmer temperatures by Tuesday. Other provinces, including Gauteng and Mpumalanga, are forecast to have a mix of clouds and isolated showers.
