South Africa weather service issues severe weather warnings

The South African Weather Service has issued multiple warnings for severe weather across various provinces. Residents in parts of the country are bracing for severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and disruptive rain.

In the Northern Cape and Western Cape, yellow level 4 warnings for disruptive rain have been issued, which could lead to the flooding of roads and settlements. Severe thunderstorm and excessive lightning warnings (level 2) are in effect for parts of the Northern Cape and Western Cape, while the Eastern Cape faces level 1 thunderstorm warnings.

Damaging winds are expected in the North West, Northern Cape, Free State, Limpopo, and Eastern Cape, with KwaZulu-Natal also under a level 2 warning for damaging winds and waves. Specific areas such as Rustenburg are under alert for thunderstorms that may cause localized damage to infrastructure, property, and livestock, as well as localized flooding and small hail.

Coastal areas like Cape Town and Gqeberha are experiencing rain and cool temperatures, while inland regions like Gauteng and Limpopo remain warmer with partly cloudy skies and isolated showers.
