South Africa weather: Thundershowers and fire warnings
South Africa is experiencing varied spring weather conditions across several provinces. In the Free State, the weekend of September 26–27 will bring moisture and unsettled weather. Saturday is expected to be warmer with showers and thundershowers, with temperatures reaching 29°C in Kroonstad and 28°C in Bloemfontein. Sunday will see a temperature drop and continued cloudy skies or showers in areas like Bethlehem and Bloemfontein.
Nationwide, weather warnings have been issued for various regions. The South African Weather Service has flagged veld fire danger conditions in the north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape, specifically near Augrabies Falls and Twee Rivieren. Additionally, yellow level 2 warnings for severe thunderstorms—including risks of excessive lightning, small hail, and gusty winds—are in effect for the Namakwa district in the Northern Cape, as well as the Central Karoo and West Coast districts of the Western Cape.
Other regional conditions include rain showers in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, and showers or thundershowers in the Western and Eastern Cape. Johannesburg and Durban are expected to remain partly cloudy.
