South African tech initiatives launch to support startups

Two new programmes have been launched in South Africa to support technology startups through incubation and international expansion training.

Injini, an education technology incubator, has introduced a two-year EdTech for Employment Incubation Programme. Funded by the Switzerland-based Leopold Bachmann Foundation, the initiative will support 10 early-stage startups in two cohorts. The programme focuses on solutions that improve work readiness, digital skills, and access to income for young people aged 15 to 30, addressing the country's high youth unemployment rate.

Separately, the Cape Venture Bridge programme, run by AfricArise, is accepting applications from 20 Western Cape-based technology startups. Supported by the Western Cape Government, the six-month initiative provides investment-readiness training, mentorship, and technology credits. The five highest-performing participants will receive fully funded places to attend GITEX Africa in Morocco in April 2027 to meet with international investors and partners.
