South African technology and entrepreneurship initiatives

Overview

South Africa has introduced several programs aimed at supporting technology startups and fostering entrepreneurship to address economic challenges such as youth unemployment and energy shortages.

Initial efforts included the launch of the EdTech for Employment Incubation Programme by Injini, which focuses on digital skills and work readiness for youth, and the Cape Venture Bridge programme, which provides mentorship and investment-readiness training to Western Cape-based startups. The latter also offers high-performing participants the opportunity to attend GITEX Africa in Morocco.

Following these developments, the National Programme for Job-Generating Entrepreneurs was established. Led by One Young World and the Ichikowitz Family Foundation, this initiative selects young founders in sectors such as artificial intelligence and energy innovation to connect them with mentors and commercial partners to drive business growth and employment creation.
