South African businessman Suliman Carrim to testify openly before Madlanga Commission

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry ordered that all details of Suliman Carrim's medical condition, treatment providers and facilities remain confidential. The commission rejected Carrim's request for a closed‑door (in‑camera) hearing for a second time and scheduled him to appear in an open session on Friday. Earlier, Carrim missed a scheduled appearance citing ill health, prompting scrutiny after reports that he was seen at a Western Cape shopping centre on the day he was expected to testify. The commission is seeking CCTV footage and may subpoena Carrim's doctors to verify his fitness to testify. Carrim, a North West province businessman, has been linked to alleged money‑laundering activities involving crime figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and tender businessman Hangwani Maumela, including a R10‑million investment and a disputed R750,000 transfer.

The commission's directive also bars any mention of Carrim’s medical details or the residential and business addresses of his family during the proceedings.
