South Africa's Madlanga Commission to Rule on In-Camera Testimony for Sensitive Witness

Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, chair of the Madlanga Commission, is expected to rule on an application by an unidentified "Witness M" to give testimony in camera. The witness argues that their evidence, which concerns a drug bust, contains highly sensitive details about heads of state, drug syndicates, organised crime families, terrorist groups, politically connected individuals and law‑enforcement officials, and that public disclosure would place them and their family at serious risk.

The commission, which is hearing allegations that suspended deputy Crime‑Intelligence head Major General Feroz Khan used intelligence resources to aid the Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema and to benefit tobacco company Carnilinx, will consider the request while continuing its inquiry into alleged misconduct involving senior officials and criminal networks.
