South Africa's SASSA Sets August 2026 Old‑Age Grant Payment Date and Issues July Children’s Grant Reminder

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) announced that the August 2026 Old‑Age Grants will be paid on Tuesday, 4 August. Payments increase to R2 400 for recipients aged 60‑74 and R2 420 for those 75 and older, following a Treasury‑approved rise of R80. The agency highlighted a R4.8 billion underspend in the previous financial year, noting that the surplus could fund additional support for pensioners. SASSA also confirmed it has targeted over 200 000 suspect profiles, saving about R170 million, and has tightened means‑testing and asset limits for eligibility.

Separately, SASSA reminded caregivers that children’s grants, including the Child Support and Foster Child Grants, will be paid from Monday, 6 July. Beneficiaries are urged to keep their banking details up to date, use the e‑Life Certification portal for digital verification, and beware of scams during the payment period.
