VinFast fuels global EV surge as sales rise in 50 countries

Vietnamese automaker VinFast reported a rapid expansion in 2026, delivering 70,085 electric vehicles in the second quarter and 128,662 units in the first half of the year, a 96% year‑on‑year increase. The company also shipped 286,039 electric scooters and e‑bikes, underscoring its focus on diverse markets.

According to the International Energy Agency, global electric‑vehicle sales jumped 35% in the second quarter, with record‑high sales in 50 countries despite a 5% decline in overall car sales. The IEA now expects EVs to represent 29% of total vehicle sales in 2026 and more than 60% of new‑car sales in China. Growth is being driven by emerging markets such as Vietnam, India, Australia and South Korea, where sales roughly doubled year‑on‑year.
