South American logistics infrastructure expands in Peru and Chile

Logistics developments are underway in Peru and Chile to enhance regional trade connectivity. In Peru, ProInversión has launched a demand study for the San Román Dry Port located on 52 hectares in Juliaca, Puno. This multimodal platform aims to improve connections between southern Peru, Pacific maritime ports, and commercial corridors leading to Brazil and Bolivia. The study will analyze cargo flows, identify key production chains, and project demand scenarios to define the project’s structure.

In Chile, the General Manager of San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI), Juan Pablo Santibáñez, stated that ports in the Bio Bio Region possess significant unused capacity, currently operating at approximately 55%. The region is prepared to handle increased cargo from southern Chile and international sources, specifically the Neuquén province in Argentina. Santibáñez emphasized the need for improved coordination between authorities, better border crossing agility, and infrastructure projects like the Interport Route to fully leverage the ten terminals available in the area.
