South Asia weather alert: Heavy rain forecasted for West Bengal and Bangladesh

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecasted across parts of West Bengal, India, and Bangladesh.

In West Bengal, the Regional Meteorological Centre has issued alerts for several districts. While Kolkata may only see scattered light to moderate showers through Wednesday, heavy rain is expected in Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, and both Burdwan districts starting Tuesday. A yellow alert is in effect for all South Bengal districts from Sunday to Wednesday. North Bengal districts, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar, are also under alert for heavy rain and gusty winds.

In Bangladesh, the weather office predicts rain and thunderstorms for much of the country, including the Dhaka division. While temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable, light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds is likely across the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Some areas may experience moderately heavy rainfall.
