South Australia Police end search for missing infant
South Australia Police have formally concluded the search for three-month-old Lewis Wright following a suspected murder-suicide involving his mother, Helena Wright, and his two-year-old sister, Hazel. The bodies of Helena and Hazel were recovered from the ocean near Port MacDonnell on July 27.
Specialist divers conducted several operations along the Cape Northumberland coastline, but treacherous conditions, including powerful swells, poor visibility, and dangerous underwater terrain, prevented the location of the infant. Superintendent Trent Cox stated that while the formal search has ended, officers will continue to monitor the shoreline and investigate if anything washes up.
Police have urged the public to cease spreading speculation and “rubbish” regarding the incident on social media, noting that online chatter is causing additional distress to the family and the Mount Gambier community. The deaths are being treated as a suspected murder-suicide, and a coronial investigation is ongoing.
