South Bengal districts placed on orange alert for heavy rain

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall across eight districts in south Bengal. The weather conditions are attributed to an active low-pressure area and a monsoon trough.

Districts expected to experience heavy rain include Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, East Burdwan, and Birbhum. Residents may also encounter gusty winds of 30-40 kmph and frequent thunderstorms. While rainfall in south Bengal may subside slightly starting Friday, weather activity is expected to intensify again in southern districts by Monday.

In north Bengal, intense rainfall is forecast for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar. Some areas, specifically Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, may experience extremely heavy rainfall in the coming days.
