South Bohemian Region to reduce administrative staff by 20 percent

The South Bohemian Region (Jihočeský kraj) is continuing a multi-year effort to streamline its regional administration. Following a personnel audit initiated after the 2020 elections, the number of employees at the regional office is projected to drop to 441 by 2027. This represents a 20 percent reduction from the 542 employees recorded in 2021.

Regional Governor Martin Kuba stated that the reduction fulfills a promise to optimize state spending. The administration noted that the downsizing is being achieved through gradual optimization and the integration of new technologies to handle certain tasks.

While the workforce is decreasing, Lukáš Glaser, the director of the regional office, noted that remaining employees will receive higher salaries and improved benefits. The total savings resulting from this six-year reduction process are expected to approach 200 million CZK. The annual budget for the office is approximately 350 million CZK.
