South East Melbourne Phoenix defeat Sydney Kings at NBL Blitz

The South East Melbourne Phoenix secured a 101-84 victory over the Sydney Kings during the opening night of the CODE Sports NBL Blitz at Bendigo's Red Energy Arena. The Phoenix utilized a full squad, including new imports Skylar Mays, D'Shawn Schwartz, and Yannis Morin, to pull away with a 35-point second quarter.

Skylar Mays contributed 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds to the win. For the Sydney Kings, Xavier Cooks led with nine points, though the team played without Championship Series MVP Kendric Davis and faced absences from Torrey Craig and Matthew Dellavedova due to illness.

The tournament also highlights the anticipated breakout season for Dash Daniels. After a rookie season with Melbourne United, the 18-year-old guard has moved to the Phoenix. NBL legend Jason Cadee noted that the Phoenix's high-pressure, up-and-down style of play should suit Daniels' defensive capabilities and help him develop offensive confidence.
