South Florida faces hot temperatures and frequent thunderstorms
South Florida is expected to experience a period of hot and unsettled weather through the upcoming weekend and into next week. High temperatures are projected to reach approximately 90 °F, with heat index readings potentially climbing between 100–105 °F.
Tropical moisture trapped across the region will likely trigger frequent afternoon showers and thunderstorms. While Sunday may offer more sunshine and drier conditions, a stalled front is expected to bring numerous passing storms back to the area by midweek. No tropical development is currently anticipated in the Atlantic basin.
Due to the high frequency of thunderstorms, authorities are emphasizing lightning safety. The National Lightning Safety Council notes that Florida holds the national record for lightning strike density. Safety guidelines recommend seeking shelter in closed buildings with plumbing and electricity, or in fully enclosed vehicles, and avoiding open structures like beach huts or carports.
