South Florida Heat and Thunderstorm Forecast for Early August

The National Weather Service predicts a week of extreme heat and frequent thunderstorms across South Florida, including Palm Beach County and the Boca Raton area. High temperatures will hover near 92‑93 °F with heat index values reaching 105‑110 °F. Daily chances of precipitation range from 60 % to 80 %, with rainfall amounts of a quarter to half an inch expected in many locations.

A plume of Saharan dust that suppressed storm development earlier in the week is weakening, allowing a surge of tropical moisture from the south to move inland. This shift will increase the likelihood of widespread thunderstorms and raise flood risk, especially over the weekend. Storms are already forming around Lake Okeechobee, and downdrafts from dry air aloft could produce gusty winds and heavy downpours even from modest‑looking cells.
