South India aims for USD 10 trillion economy by 2047
At the 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting in Mahabalipuram, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu proposed a roadmap to transform Southern India into a USD 10 trillion economy by 2047. The council was chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and included regional Chief Ministers. Naidu noted that the southern states currently contribute approximately 31% of India’s GDP.
To achieve this growth, Naidu suggested several large-scale infrastructure and connectivity projects. These include a high-speed bullet train corridor linking Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu through Kuppam, as well as an integrated transport network connecting Amaravati, Bengaluru, and Chennai. He also advocated for a shared logistics network, dry ports, and the direct integration of the southern power grid with the national grid.
Other proposals included the Godavari–Cauvery river-linking project to address water shortages in Tamil Nadu, the establishment of a joint consortium of universities for skill development, and a “Mutual Aid Force” for regional disaster management. Additionally, Naidu highlighted the development of Amaravati’s “Quantum Valley” in partnership with IBM, TCS, and IIT Madras to host India’s largest quantum computer.
