South Kivu experiences surge in fatal armed attacks
A wave of violence has been reported across the South Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Bukavu, multiple fatal incidents occurred within a 24-hour period. In the Ibanda commune, unidentified armed men shot and killed Iragi Mutondo Lucien in the Ndendere neighborhood and a young boy in the Panzi district. Additionally, the body of a man in his thirties was discovered on Avenue des Ouvriers 2 with a machete placed on his chest.
In Uvira, 80-year-old Nestor Bahunde Kisesa was shot dead at his home in the Rombe 2 neighborhood. Local civil society members have called for urgent security reinforcements and thorough investigations to identify the perpetrators of these attacks.
