South Korea announces Chuseok relief and budget measures amid rising interest rates

President Lee Jae-myung addressed the upcoming national budget and economic challenges during a cabinet meeting, noting that rising interest rates are currently unavoidable. He emphasized the need for fiscal policy to play a precise role in minimizing the hardship faced by vulnerable populations and ensuring that growth potential is not compromised.

To address economic stability and the upcoming Chuseok holiday, the South Korean government has approved a comprehensive livelihood stability plan. This includes supplying a record 183,000 tons of 19 major seasonal goods and offering discounts of up to 50% on various agricultural, livestock, and fishery products.

Additional measures to support citizens during the holiday period include waiving highway tolls for four days, reducing KTX train fares by 10%, and providing 43.4 trillion won in holiday-related loans and guarantees. The government also plans to supply 480 billion won in policy finance for youth and vulnerable groups, a fourfold increase from the previous year.
