South Korea experiences heavy rain and flooding in southern regions

Heavy rainfall and localized showers have caused flooding and infrastructure disruptions across several regions in South Korea. In Gyeongsangbuk-do, 19 incidents of flooding were reported, including road inundation and residential yard flooding. The most significant damage occurred in Gumi, Pohang, and Gyeongju. In Pohang, intense showers exceeding 55mm per hour led to road closures, while Gumi experienced manhole overflows. Additionally, lightning strikes in Daegu caused power outages for approximately 40 households.

Weather forecasts indicate continued instability across the country. Southern coastal areas, including Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do, are expected to receive significant rainfall, with some areas seeing up to 80mm. Despite the precipitation, high temperatures are expected to persist, with daytime highs reaching between 29 and 34 degrees Celsius in many regions. The Korea Meteorological Administration has issued heavy rain warnings for certain southern areas and advises caution regarding flash floods, thunder, and lightning.
