Severe rainstorms flood Seoul, shut schools in Chungcheong

Heavy rain across Seoul on September 9 triggered a city‑wide rain warning, flood alerts for several waterways and the temporary suspension of five out of eight Han River ferry routes. All 29 monitored rivers were placed under control, and the Korean Meteorological Administration warned of up to 120 mm of additional rain through the next day.

In the neighboring Chungcheong region, the same storm forced the closure of multiple schools and caused numerous homes to flood. Local authorities issued evacuation orders for residents near overflowing reservoirs, recorded more than 200 emergency reports—including road flooding, landslides and structural damage—but reported no casualties. Public facilities, roads and ports were temporarily shut down as precautionary measures.
