South Korea launches AI health chatbot for public use

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) and the Ministry of Science and ICT have launched the ‘AI Public Health Helper Chatbot.’ Available 24/7 via the Community Health Survey website, the service allows citizens to monitor their health status and receive guidance on managing chronic diseases.

By inputting physical metrics such as height and weight, along with lifestyle data regarding diet, exercise, and sleep, users can compare their health status against similar age and gender demographics. The AI provides results through visual aids like health traffic lights and graphs, highlighting risks for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and obesity.

The service was developed as part of the ‘Public AX Project,’ utilizing over 5 million data points from national health surveys accumulated over two decades. To ensure reliability, the chatbot uses health data verified by medical and AI experts. While the tool provides personalized health reports and conversational advice on lifestyle management, officials noted that the information is for reference only and does not replace professional medical diagnosis.
