South Korea launches K-export initiative for SMEs

The South Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups has launched the ‘2026 K-Export Strategic Items’ program, selecting 188 products to bolster global market entry. The initiative focuses on consumer goods, including 70 beauty products, 40 household items, 40 food products, and 38 fashion items.

To facilitate international expansion, the government is partnering with major domestic distributors such as Olive Young, Musinsa, Shinsegae Department Store, Gmarket, and Lotte Mart. These partners will provide access to overseas distribution networks, online and offline exhibitions, and influencer marketing.

Previous participants have seen significant growth; for instance, one beauty company reported an export increase from approximately $390,000 in 2023 to $3.11 million in 2024. The program aims to lower entry barriers for small and medium-sized enterprises that struggle with local distribution channels, international certifications, and global promotion.
