South Korea launches nationwide gender equality survey

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in South Korea has launched the ‘2026 Gender Equality Survey,’ targeting 4,510 households nationwide. The survey, conducted from September 30 to October 12, is a national statistical project mandated by the Framework Act on Gender Equality to be held every five years.

This year’s survey introduces new questions to reflect modern social shifts, specifically examining how artificial intelligence (AI) technology might impact employment. It also investigates economic activities beyond labor income, such as savings and financial asset investments, to identify gender differences in wealth management.

Additional focus areas include perceptions of gender-based violence, particularly anxiety and severity regarding online and digital spaces. The study also covers family values, social and political participation, reproductive health, and general views on gender equality. The findings, expected to be released in early 2027, will serve as the foundation for the ‘4th Basic Plan for Gender Equality Policy (2028–2032).’
