South Korea reports economic recovery and new cultural export initiatives
South Korea is seeing simultaneous developments in its economic performance and cultural exports. The Ministry of Finance and Economy reported that the national economy shows solid signs of recovery, driven by a 68.7 percent surge in exports in August, largely supported by strong semiconductor shipments. While domestic consumption is improving and the unemployment rate remains at 2 percent, the ministry noted risks from Middle East geopolitical tensions and inflation caused by high oil prices.
On the cultural front, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has launched ‘Korea Select 25’ at The Hyundai Seoul. This 10-day showcase features 25 winning entries from the 2026 Korea Tourism Souvenir Contest, aiming to elevate traditional artisanal goods into high-design luxury items. The collection includes a Presidential Award-winning handcrafted brass tableware set inspired by traditional folk performing arts. The KTO plans to expand the distribution of these high-end goods through duty-free networks, museum gift shops, and global e-commerce platforms.
