South Korea special prosecutor investigates First Lady Kim Keon-hee and ex‑Police chief Yoon Hee‑geun

South Korea's comprehensive special prosecutor has opened criminal investigations into two high‑profile figures. Former Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office deputy chief Choi Jae‑hoon and former chief Lee Chang‑soo were charged with violating the anti‑procurement law for allegedly coordinating with First Lady Kim Keon‑hee on an unofficial draft of her response to the Deutsche Motors stock‑manipulation case. The probe uncovered multiple edits between the unofficial and official letters, prompting charges that could carry up to two years in prison or a fine.

Former police commissioner Yoon Hee‑geun also appeared before the same prosecutor team, questioned about alleged cover‑up of a Unification Church investigation that involved allegations of overseas gambling and possible police misconduct. Yoon denied any involvement, stating, “I have never heard a single ‘Tong’ word about Unification Church,” and rejected the accusations of authority abuse and evidence suppression.
